Correo at Nacionalismo

I just came back from the post office. I did not realize how genuinely third world they run things there. I was afraid that my mails would end up somewhere in Timbuktu, but apparently my friends and family got their chirstmas cards early. So i guess it works after all. I sent some documents to netherlands and the girl there goes "netherlands, holland, dutch...." and i secretly answered in my head "yes, windmills, wooden shoes, tulips, social tolerance...". I also sent a card to Uzbekistan and she had no idea there was a country called such. I said "it's in Central Asia" and she looked at me with squinty eyes that say "you think you can dupe me with this fictitious country of yours!" She opened a dusty cabinet that has remained untouched for ages, looked through some yellow files and voila, she was surprised that indeed there is a country called Uzbekistan somewhere in Asia. Didn't I read somewhere in the paper that there was some money for the computerization of the philippine postal services? Doubtful. The government has even relegated the delivery of basic education by asking for loose change from the people. This country is in a quagmire, I'm so glad I came home. There must be something I can do to initiate change. I'm thinking of giving out condoms at the MRT for Christmas....
