Every payday the metro cops are lurking in the major highways, hoping to extort money from the weary drivers of Manila. My sister, who I venerate for braving the streets filled with thugs and crooks, was accused of beating the red light by a crooked cop. It's sad when a father has to resort to corruption just so he can bring home a decent meal. Then again, there are many legal ways one can make money, it's a shame that he would resort to such activity. And how did my sister dealt with the situation? She called my cousin who works in the police department, who talked to the cop. After a minute he lets her go and asks her to be careful. Now if you are not lucky enough to know someone in the police department, you either bribe him or you put up with the hassle of paying a fine and confronting the long lines and slow process of getting back your driver's license. I'd rather pay the fine and even if it takes years to get back my license, I will never give that man a single cent of my money. I'm so glad I don't drive.
