Just came back from this club which is supposed to be one of the happening place in Manila. Everyone looked like they just stepped out of some rap video, it was madly distressing. We just saw "Save the Last Dance" on tv and I thought, I haven't done that for awhile, dance. So what was supposed to be a night of furious dancing turned out to be a study of the club scene in Manila.
1. In the long toilet line, I overheard some girls who wanted to hook up. And I thought, how would you know if there was anyone mildy interesting in that place. I couldn't even hear myself think due to the loud, awful music. Read: you meet interesting guys in book stores, Tower Records, intimate rock concerts. I once met this really interesting guy because he was wearing a "Teenage Fanclub" shirt. Of course I did not end up marrying him but the memory of that one night stayed with me forever.
2. I wanted desperately to tell this one guy dancing in front of me that if he came there to get laid, that would be unimaginable with the way he was bumping around like William Hung on redbull.
3. Some Indian girl told her boyfriend: "Let's teach these Filipinos how to dance!!!" I was about to challenge her to a dance-off when some stupid kids started hitting each other.
4. Why does every guy wants to be cool? And why do girls fall for such guys? The geeks will end up more successful. They will become CEOs, inventors, novelists and they are better lovers.
5. A club is supposed to be a place where you have an out-of-body-experience, you go there to dance!
6. Realization: I'm like Enid from Ghost World, always staying in the fringes. I like Steve Buscemi (without the issues) and his record collection. I won't settle for him though. I'll take the bus and look for someone to show me something of consequence.
