Indigenes

A story about North African soldiers in the French Army close to the end of World War II. For a war movie, it is filled with numerous silent moments that my sister would exclaim "is this a silent movie?" every frigging minute! The more memorable scene was the shooting close to the end of the movie, where four Algerian soldiers take on an entire unit of German soldiers. It's like a scene from a counterstrike game, which I haven't played for a long time. This movie also made me think of Albert Camus (the Algerian connection), who I missed reading. I'm thinking of re-reading "The Stranger". Anyway, I heard that this movie impressed on French law makers, that they passed a bill making the pensions of the soldiers from former French colonies match those of French veterans. Talk about a movie that changes society.
Now it's time for my early morning movie, Children of Men. I love weekends!
