the innocent

My first Ian McEwan book and I am hooked, like a junkie who is willing to prostitute herself for the next fix. Set in Berlin just after world war 2, the story revolves around an Englishman employee from the post office who was working for the Americans and was a reluctant spy for the British. His ill-fated love affair with a German girl forced him to divulge information to the Russians. Every scene McEwan writes come into life, it was like I was on acid and suddenly I am seeing these images in front of me. One memorable scene was when they were packing a body to fit into two suit cases. Remember when you lost your innocence and you get a glimpse of who you really are...
