My sisters are boycotting all movies that Brad Pitt is involved with. Apparently, they have not absolved him of his supposed marital transgressions. Then again, they are hopelessly in love with Mark "Marky Mark" Wahlberg despite his rumored penile extension in Boogie nights. I still cannot forget that onscreen kiss with China Chow in Big Hit. The Departed is a Plan B production, so my sisters stayed true to their silly promise and missed out on Mark's brilliant performance as a foul-mouthed cop who you wished were given more screentime. A few minutes into the movie, I realized that I have seen it before. Turns out it was based on the Hong Kong flick "Internal Affairs" which stars Andy Lau (he sings too, Adam and his band in China opened for him one time) and Tony Leung (sexy, check him out in In the Mood for Love, Happy Together and Hero). Amazing that many brilliant Asian movies are being remade into Hollywood vehicles (The Departed being an Oscar vehicle for Scorsese). Unfortunately, only a few people knows this. Anyway, it is a good cop-bad cop movie with brilliant performances from an almost all-male cast. I don't know what to make of the only female cast Vera Farmiga. I like the idea that she's the weak link between the two cops. As a professional psychologist though, she sucks! No insight into the true nature of his boyfriend and slept with a patient! Take her license away!
