The internet connection is too slow here so I cannot upload the Dinagyang pictures. Maybe tomorrow, if I muster enough patience. Instead, I'm writing about Inarritu's Babel.
I have seen both Amores Perros (yes, love is a bitch!) and 21 grams so I expected Babel to be a movie with many stories adeptly intertwined yet with a very cohesive ending. I thought this particular directing style would be appropriate since the movie is supposedly about connectivity and inter-relatedness. I did not expect the connectivity to be so literal though. I was hoping for a more unapparent interpretation of the term.
Still there are good reasons to see the film:
1. Gael Garcia Bernal makes a very brief appearance (oh la la).
2. Shots of the distinct Shibuya crossing. I was pelted with memories of good times in Shibuya that I have to pause the movie for awhile. Meeting friends at the Hachiko exit, billiards, the Roxy store and bikini sales, surfers party with Pido...
3. Brad Pitt looks like how a real human being should look.
4. Experience what it would be like if you were deaf and went to a rave party. I thought she should have realized how lucky she was missing the crappy conversations and bad music!
5. If you are a guy, you will see a naked, nubile Japanese girl.
6. If you are girl, you will see a fully clothed Gael Garcia Bernal and can imagine undressing him for the rest of the movie.
